SCÉNARIO : Dans ce coin perdu du sud du Chili, envahi par les eaux, les villageois vivent dans l'isolement.Un professeur de mathématiques, Ramiro Orellana, est exilé par le gouvernement.Il fait la connaissance des habitants: un curé étranger, une Indienne guérisseuse, la fille d'un exilé rapublicain espagnol.Il se lie d'amitié avec un scaphandrier fou.
